Get the latest listings.

You need to know the latest updates on listings. Just imagine how disappointing and frustrating it would be to find a home you really like online, then to find it’s already sold when you drive out to see it. Pay attention to the details.

Pictures may be worth a thousand words, but they can also be deceiving. Those staged kitchens and living rooms don’t show the pipes, the attic, or the neighborhood. There may be some hidden problems in the home, and the neighborhood may not be what you're looking for. So enjoy the pretty pictures, but also look at the property details in the description of the homes. You can also look online for details about the neighborhood and crime rates, and the schools, transportation, and hospitals in the area. Do the research and you won’t be surprised by ugly discoveries.

Talk to your Realtor.

Probably the most important thing is to talk to your Realtor about the listings you’re interested in. A good Realtor will not only be able to give you a good idea of the areas you’re interested in, they’ll be able to help you weigh the pros and cons of each property. It’s your Realtor’s job to be an expert on your city, so make use of their knowledge. Plus, they’ll be able to get you much more information than you could get on your own with much less hassle. So, ask away!
